World of Warcraft - Item Upgrading
The upgrade option lets players boost an item's gear rating up to 700 points and add a final bonus. Items can be upgraded if they're in your inventory and you take them to the Kiln.
Certain items are worth upgrading due to their distinctive stats. (For instance an excellently roll breakpoint armor is used in melee PvP). Other items such as weapons don't change much after an upgrade, and aren't worth the effort.
Weapons
Upgrades to weapons can improve their numerical stats, like attack damage, crit probability and PvE/PvP damage. Weapons also come with a flat bonus that increases the damage they deal per second. In addition, many weapons have an added bonus that is activated when three or more of the same weapon are present on a single unit. Armor items can be upgraded to boost their performance. This can boost the defense of a helm or chest while belts and gloves will boost their required strength and agility. Armor offers a rerolling option for its Enhanced Defense percent. This means that it can sometimes reduce its value.
The upgrade template for a weapon displays the new stats it will gain upon upgrading, along with their relative values. This means that the weapon will gain 3% attack damage if it is upgraded from an 8 attack damage sword to an 11 attack damage sword. However the 3% difference doesn't mean that it will strike for 3 times less often, since it is an absolute statistic.
A weapon can also be rerolled using the green button that has circling arrows in the menu for items. The item will be rerolled and alter its stats, but it will not reset the weapon's level or connect it to an account's status.
Armor
A few upgrades to your armor can make a huge difference to your survival. Certain sets can provide MASSIVE increases in resistance to curses, poison, fire, and magic. This can make it easier to navigate difficult terrains. In general, the more defense you have on your character, the greater health you will gain from each point. Therefore, it is recommended to upgrade your armor.
To improve your armor, head to one of the Great Fairy Fountains in the game. There are four fountains in all each of which requires you to complete a special side-quest involving the Stable Trotters musical troupe. Once you've completed the main quest, and the corresponding fountains, you can talk to any Great Fairy in order to unlock the armor upgrade menu.
The amount of materials needed to upgrade each piece of armor will differ. In general, you'll be looking at anything from three to five Red Chuchu Jellies and 10 Rupees for the initial upgrade, then anywhere between five Rubies and 10 Fire-Breath Horns for each subsequent one. For instance the Champion Leathers can be upgraded to +5 defense, allowing you to keep up with a good-sized group of enemies in most cold conditions, and the Snowquill Headdress can be upgraded up to +20 defense, giving the protection needed to survive a full on raid with a few friends.
It isn't possible to upgrade armor in the same way as weapons. If you're playing as a Warrior it is best to focus on upgrading your armor to increase physical strength or spell power. You should also save your armor upgrades to upgrade the armor that you'll still wear by the end of the story, like the Ring of Lightning, Spectral Shield or the mask you use in the final boss fight The Monter Parts Merchant Mask.
By giving the jeweler 10 Twinkling Titanite in Gerudo Town, you can unlock perks for your armor. You'll typically want to keep these upgrades for the weapon you'll use to beat the game. Potions
